M O’Brien’s pub has been in the area since 1902 its original owner Jospeh Hughes ran it as Huges Public House from 1902 to 1942. The pubs current name comes from its previous owner Michael O’Brien from Co. Cavan who passed away in 1974.
The pub ran for decades for everyone from writers, doctors, civil servants, gravediggers and all other parts of the diverse crew of people that lived in the Leeson street area.
